European standard for safety footwear ('S' marking).
The explosive atmosphere zones called "ATEX" and the protection of workers against the risks of explosion are regulated by Directive 1999/92 / CE.
In these areas, the use of suitable footwear is recommended, which dissipates electrostatic discharges, as an element of a global system of prevention of the risk of explosion.
The EN 61340-5-1 standard defines the requirements for the design and implementation of control devices for electrostatic discharge (ESD) that can damage electronic components.
The PPE marked ESD must offer a resistance between 105 Ω and 3.5x107 Ω.
To be usable in an ESD system, a shoe must be at least certified according to the EN 61340-4-3 standard and guarantee a resistance lower than 108 Ω (and greater than 105 Ω), therefore it becomes dissipative.
